We don’t generally have much to do or people to see on Sundays so home it is.
We have a newspaper delivered at vast expense (because there’s no shops open in walking distance on Sunday) and read that in bed or in front of the wood burner downstairs. And usually we have a walk. One of our reasons for moving out of London was to get outside more.
Channel 5SELECT shows several episodes of Columbo over the course of Sunday. Columbo is one of our favourite TV programmes EVER. It’s so good I’ll probably do a whole separate post about it sometime but suffice to say for now that if there’s a Jack Cassidy episode on it’s an especially good day.
And we love a Sunday roast. That’s now a joint activity. A while ago I’d cook the Sunday roast by myself. Then McTwig got massively inspired by Gordon Ramsay Cooks Christmas (or something) where he does a turkey gravy with cider and walnuts. So we now do the Sunday roast with me on roast potatoes and McTwig on the gravy of the week (lamb stock and red wine yesterday) and divvying up the other things. Usually includes a bit of low-level bickering but that’s par for the course when we’re in the kitchen; I can understand why G. Ramsay swears so much. But it’s still fun. SO happy about that, cheers @gordongram. The gravy is great. Gordon Ramsay’s Turkey Gravy.
And we potter about the house fixing things, or re-arranging them, and do a bit of dead-heading in the garden, and chat about the week ahead or Nigel Slater’s recipes in the paper or Columbo.
It is a little life and I am very happy about that.
